Memory Walk Fundraiser by Parkside Manor

September 25, 2010
5:00 pmto9:00 pm

Parkside Manor will be hosting a fundraiser at tg’s * 4120 Seventh Avenue to benefit the 2010 Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk.

We will be serving a pasta dinner with a fresh garden salad and garlic bread. The marinara sauce is the old family recipe from one of our residents, Florence. Her daughter, Cathy DiCello, was gracious enough to provide us with the recipe — and to assist with the fundraiser.

Throughout the evening, …you’ll see several employees from Parkside Manor dishing up food, greeting & waiting on you and making sure you have a pleasant time … Tony Gresham – Life Enrichment Coordinator, Patricia Prida – Lifestyle Coordinator and Ann Powderly-RN – Nurse Administrator.

Also, the guest bartenders will be Ted McMahon, Executive Director and Shelley Maurer, Administrative Assistant at Parkside Manor.
And if those two look familiar, it’s because — in a past life — they’ve both worked at tg’s!

Later in the evening, you can listen to DONOMA while enjoying a drink!

Tickets may be purchased by cash or check, in advance, at either:

Parkside Manor * 6300 67th Street * Kenosha, WI 53142 or tg’s * 4120 Seventh Avenue * Kenosha, WI 53140

For $10, you’ll get a fresh garden salad with Italian dressing, garlic bread and a serving of pasta with a delicious homemade marinara sauce slow-cooked with tomatoes, pork ribs, herbs & spices!

Mystery Trips are a HUGE Success.

We like our Mystery trips here at Hickory Park.  Sometimes when planning our outings, we just aren’t sure where to go.  The store is always nice, but not everyone wants to- or is able to spend too much time up and about.

The element of  surprise is nice.  Last month we even saw Donkey’s while on a back roads tour of some farms.  Today’s trip took us over the Hoan Bridge to the other side where we stopped and marveled at the Calatrava at the Art Museum.  That was supposed to be it, but the beauty of the Calatrava inspired us all for more.  We headed down Lincoln Memorial Drive to Bradford Beach.  We had to turn our bus around somewhere, so the no U turn sign added more mystery to our trip as we had to detour through Lake Park.  We came back down to Lincoln Memorial Drive to go back up a winding hill to enjoy the view of the North Point Water Tower and back down the hill we went.  The clouds cleared just long enough for us to enjoy the scenes and as we got back on the Hoan Bridge the rain poured.

Thank you clouds and rain for giving us just enough time.  We reminisced about how things had changed.  One resident who had never been on an outing before told us how it had been 40 years since he had been down that way and how many wonderful memories he had of good times on Lincoln Memorial Drive.

Mystery trips are magical and word is spreading.  Two new passengers that had never ridden the bus for outings enjoyed it so much they said they would go again.  I hope our Magical Mystery Tours will grow in popularity.

Where to go next…..?

Go Team!!  Hickory Park is proud to announce that we have a team walking in this year’s Memory Walk for The Alzheimer’s Association.

On Saturday October 2nd we will lace up our sneakers, grab our water and proudly represent our community.

With more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, and nearly 10 million more serving as caregivers, the time to act is now!

All Memory Walk donations benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

This cause is very near and dear to the Hickory Park family.  Please consider joining our team and walking along side us.  If you are not able to walk that day, donations can be made securely online.

To join the team, make a donation or to learn more please visit:
